A Call for
Community Resources
A little support can go a long way! Through tailored feedback, professional mentorship, and real-world guidance, artists can strengthen their skills, clarify their goals and build confidence in their creative and professional decisions. Paired with clear application guides, practical materials, and curated resources – opportunities are made more accessible for all who are interested. These practices help artists understand what reviewers look for and learn how to present their work effectively while aligning their proposals with funding and program-specific priorities. Resulting in an increased quality of future submissions, improved organizational outcomes, and helping artists sustain long-term professional growth and success.

The exhibition program is a monthly series that showcases Chicago-based artists, selected through an annual open call for exhibition proposals. Proposals are reviewed and selected by Comfort Station staff and guest panelists.

Supporting Chicago Artists
As Exhibitions Manager, I developed artist resources from a series of workshops that I helped program. These additions provided opportunities for applicants to interface with professionals concerning their personal portfolios and assisted them with any questions they may have about the submissions process. As a result, we saw an improvement in the quality of proposals in the following years and received positive feedback from artists who appeciated the extra assistance and accessability.

When managers provide individualized support and build clear, repeatable systems and processes for the programs they lead, volunteers have the opportunity to grow personally and teams strengthen through confidence, skill-building, and consistent roles, training, and communication.
This acts as an example of creative management and treats organization as an art form that turns intuition and real user feedback into continuous improvement. Actively adapting processes based on what participants and collaborators experience and empowering other individuals to use the same approach in their own projects expands the impact beyond one program into a culture of shared leadership and sustainable growth.
