Curating Experiences for Deeper Connection

At the heart of any truly memorable experience is the a story worth telling and the ability to share it well. For nonprofit organizations that story isn't just aesthetic, it's the mission made tangible. Developing a clear narrative and carrying it consistently across every point of contact transforms seemingly isolated moments into something cohesive and meaningful. It inspires investment into the community and provides the evidence needed to build trust and deepen relationships over time, but only as long as the organization remains active as a careful curator.

POSTSCRIPT
Annual Gala Fundraiser

Beginning in 2024, the organization produces an annual gala event to raise funds for the coming year's programming and operating budgets. Each year has been more successful than the last as we learn more about what works best for this specific event and our community at large.

The first year I pitched in during set up, sourcing, and some preceding craft nights to create decor for the space.

The second year I joined in the planning process and suggested we add a raffle to the event, bringing new opportunities to contribute at different giving levels with an added bonus of potentially winning a gift card to a local shop. The inclusion of the raffle also helped us interface with neighborhood establishments, leading to a stronger foothold in our community.

This past year I stepped up to help develop the pre-event promotion and worked with the team to design the paddling presentation to encourage better engagement with the giving portion of the event.

The paddling presentation is the main event of the night – after we have welcomed guests into the beautifully decorated space, shared a few cocktails by Royal Palms Shuffleboard club and a delicious meal by local chefs from Txa Txa Club – we make THE ASK.

This year, we paid greater consideration to the story we shared with the folks in the room. I volunteered to design the deck that we would present and suggested that we invite artists, programmers, and collaborators to be guest speakers. This built context around what donations would go towards funding, provided additional social proof from our community, and allowed us to share a few of the big wins from the past season that we were especially proud of!

The attention to detail that was invested into planning paid off – by the end of the evening we exceeded our goal for donations , providing a healthy budget to start with in 2026!
