Upcycling and DIY fashion can make personal style feel less like a purchase and more like a creative practice. Instead of spending time searching for the "right" look, you start with what's already there and then decide what it could become. Featured is a one of the many collections of patches that I designed for the brand, this particular group was created for the VSCO girlie. This sweet little collection of summery flair features groovy lettering, golden hues and soft blues.
Using moodboards and guidelines from the client as a reference, I created the original artwork for the collection. Then I worked with other designers from the collective to translate the vector art into a variety of end products including patches, stickers, pins and keychains.

The retro feel of this fun collection presented the perfect opportunity to feature some elements of the groovy typeface that I had previously designed for the brand's DIY Flocked Letter Sets (see below).
During the design process I begin with simple sketches, then create an outline for the vector art, before finally creating full color layouts for use in production. Throughout this process the design may evolve according to the desired end product use.
Flexibility for Fun

I designed two fonts for flocked letter sets with distinct typefaces and complementing icons, Feminist and Tropical, to build upon the Comic set that the company had previously offered.
I began designing the Feminist set with a Cooper Black style font, featuring a bold letterform that was strong with soft edges. I worked off of a vintage 70s style font for the Tropical set that is fun and a little flirty.
